Is it actually *more* likely that Aliens look like us?
Can we invoke the "Anthropic Principle" as it pertains to the evolutionary path of an organism?
The thought experiment goes like this.
1. We most likely exist on the evolutionary path most likely to produce a civilization.
2. Most other civilizations would exist on this path.
3. Organisms that shared a common evolutionary path, would share common physical traits.
Conclusion: Most aliens look like us.
This feels counter intuitive. It seems that in the vast reaches of the universe life could evolve so many different ways that we'd be unlikely to find a species that looks like us.
But I think the anthropic principle indicates that we may actually be more likely to find familiar faces out there in the stars.
