Sacrifice must be balanced with selfishness. During #COVID We created the toxic extreme of virtue.
During #COVID We created the toxic extreme of virtue, where your personal sacrifice is demanded for the greater public “good”, to a fault.
To the point where no one is strong enough to stand up for themselves and their personal beliefs.
Sacrifice must be balanced with selfishness.
BOTH are needed, in balance, for a free society to exist.
BOTH, taken to an extreme, bring about great suffering.
Blood is better than slavery. Because in the end, slavery always brings more blood.
Sacrificing all of oneself for any amount of spared blood, will lead to slavery.
We all need to be free to assess how much we will sacrifice at a given time, for a given cause. And importantly, any and ALL non action results in blood loss.
Declining to wear a mask is no different than not taking a few hours out of your day to work with a drug addict or the homeless, or the abused. It’s a sacrifice not taken that will absolutely result in death.
Every day we, through our inaction, cause death. People suffer all around us and many can be saved if we all donate more time.
Every day there is time every one of us spends not sacrificing, that could be saving lives.
Every single human moment of inaction every day costs lives.
But importantly, it IS important, and it IS good, to forgo some of these possible sacrifices, and to celebrate this life. To balance that living of life with our sacrifice.
Which means being able to exchange smiles and laughter and conversation. Critical social interactions that masks and lockdowns impede. Critical especially for youth. Some of which may not have had many more years to live. And their last years were spent behind a mask, unable to see their mothers face or the faces of their friends. How could we rob them of this? What right did we have?
I think a lot of people who jumped right on the mask band wagon did not have to strap one to their child's face.
It is a logical fallacy when people say that they would do anything to save one life. Because there is always more you can do, until you have no more to give and your own life is lost.
This illusion that this specific sacrifice, strapping a mask to your face and locking yourself in your home would somehow save more lives than anything else you could do with that time and energy was used to control us.
Our virtue was used to control us.
This is why selfishness is necessary, in moderation to challenge those who would control you for their ideals. Whether those align with yours or not.
I wish I could say this more concisely. It's not as brief as "mask up" ( command form ). Which is why we lost this discussion.
But it's important to understand this as a #society, or we will lose our #freedom.
#Selfishness is as important as #Sacrifice.
